Operation Christmas Child

Pewsey and Christchurch have been supporting this organisation for the last 5 years. We do it in conjunction with the Pewsey community and have strong links with Pewsey Vale School. We fix a Saturday in November when we invite the church and community to come together to help wrap and fill the boxes with practical items for children of different ages.

For more information on our gift wrap day click here.

These are then collected and transported to countries where basic materials are in short supply. The number of filled boxes has been growing each year. Last year we sent over 650 boxes which increased to 702 this year. Each box goes with £2 to help with transport and distribution costs.

The care and thought with which this is done reflects the desire to do something to help children in places where toys and materials such as soap and toothpaste are too expensive for families to buy. There are key workers from Samaritans Purse, the parent organisation, that help in the distribution to make sure the shoeboxes go to needy families. These key workers are based there all the year round to help meet the needs of the communities with which they are in contact. You can read more about the work of Samaritans Purse here.
